For Immediate Release Dear Chancellor Drake, Vice Chancellor Gómez, Director Winslow, Ms. Nayudu, and President Yudof, It was recently brought to my attention that the Muslim Student Union (MSU) is planning for a major 13 hour event on October 16th, titled "UCI College Day": http://www.msuuci.com/?p=2271 This event will undoubtedly require fundraising, and from their site it seems that the Doheny Beach rooms have already been reserved. I am surprised by this action, as their one year suspension is scheduled to begin on September 1st. While I am aware that they have filed to appeal the recommendations, this event seems like a bold move on their behalf, given the uncertain nature of their club status. Or has the MSU been granted immunity once again from being required to follow university policies? That is, they have not been disciplined in any way for hosting an illegal fundraiser in May, 2009 for an organization that supplies the terrorist organization Hamas (see below). By their current actions, it seems that they are confident that their appeal will succeed, and that they will once again be the only student group on campus which is exempt from following university policies. - http://octaskforce.wordpress.com/2010/06/10/zoa-uc-irvines-8-month-investigation-of-msu-hamasgalloway-fundraiser-whitewash/ Thank you for your attention to this matter, Joe Wolf |
